Modeling of substorms and flares by the fast reconnection mechanism

On the basis of the spontaneous fast reconnection model, distinct signatures of geomagnetic substorms, such as the traveling compression regions observed in the tailward magnetotail and the magnetospheric current wedge in the earthward magnetotail, are studied. Also, strong heating in the loop footpoint region is examined in association with the two-ribbon flares.
