What is the Unit for Synergetic Studies of Space (USSS)

Kyoto University has the largest astrophysical research unit in Japan, with many talented members and a wide range of research interests. This unit was developed to develop this supply of talent and broaden the scope of the research. Based on the common research theme of Space and Astronomy, using inter-departmental cooperation and taking advantage of the different areas of interest in each department, our aim is to develop new research areas and create new areas of study.

• (2009/1/28)　At the USSS administrative meeting, Professor Kazunari SHIBATA (Solar and Galactic Plasma Physics research) was elected as the new president. He will hold this role for 2 years starting on the 1st April 2009.
• (2009/3/2)　The second Unit for Synergetic Studies of Space symposium will be held. This will be held jointly with the first Space Environment and Use symposium and the 118th Humanosphere symposium.

• (2009/1/22)　The fourth Unit for Synergetic Studies of Space seminar will be held. For detailed information please click here.
• (2008/11/25-26) 　　 The Japan Society of Microgravity Application meeting (Japanese Only) was held in the centennial clock tower of Kyoto University. This was jointly held with USSS.

• (2008/10/6-9) The Flux Emergence workshop was held in the Kyodai-Kaikan.
• (2008/08/26)　The second USSS seminar was held.
• (2008/06/26)　The first USSS seminar was held.

• (2008/04/24)　The Unit for Synergetic Studies of Space website was opened.

• (2008/4/17)　Results from the satellite 'Suzaku' were announced with NASA and ESA and were reported.(Asahi, Mainichi, Yomiuri, Nikkei, Sankei, Kyoto Newspaper etc） Kyoto University Homepage (Japanese Only)
• (2008/4/9)　'Kyoto University and Astronomy' exhibition was held in The Kyoto University Museum. This was reported in various newspapers.（Mainichi, Yomiuri, Kyoto Newspaper, ＫＢＳ etc）
• (2008/04/09) The Unit for Synergetic Studies of Space was created, and Professor Katsuji KOYAMA was elected as the unit chairman.
