Hi all,

After a week’s breakaway, and an extended period of cloud before that (I see it’s over a month since my last Mars image), I managed to get a look at Mars through some high cloud and in poor seeing conditions. But nice to be out in the observatory again. The view covers Mare Tyrrhenum, Hesperia and Mare Cimmerium, with Syrtis Major at lower right and Hellas at upper right.

Dear all,

Weather has been absolutely horrible here, but tonight it finally cleared up long enough to catch Mars. The sky was unsteady though in an arctic airmass with hail and snow a couple of hours earlier. On Mars, Hellas on the evening limb was slightly brightish and the NPH very thin and faint. Possibly there is a faint Antarctic cloud band as well.

I also attach three images obtained on Dec 19, 24 and 25, when the NPH was thin but brighter than tonight, and slightly bluish. Not much else to report about.

With Mars so well placed early in the evening I will keep following as long as possible, even if it will be sporadic. With the present turn of the weather, there may be more opportunities for imaging this week.

Hi ALL,

Have attached here Mars IR images from the sessions on 09 and 10 January.

Seeing conditions were usually most likely better drink and go to bed ones both nights, visually almost nothing could have been recognizable, but managed to squeeze out some detail with 1msec exposure, minimal ROI, averaged 306FPS, 3% stacking for 92 thousand frames captured. 　

Seems no particular change for the major features. I will chase the red planet more for a while in the hope of glimpsing some meteorological activities around the coming equinox season.

I finally dragged out the 8" TEC for the first time in over a year.

Lots of bugs to shake out but I got a shot of mars showing the Sirenum and Cimmerium area.

It's getting pretty small but I might get in a few more observations.
