Hi all,

With seeing conditions so poor that having had a quick look at Jupiter, I decided it would not be worth imaging, I did spend a bit of time on Mars purely because I felt the higher frame rates may give me some chance.

The IR was best, with the shorter wavelengths again suffering. Hellas is at upper left with Syrtis Major on the terminator. Processing was hard work- often an indication that the data was poor.

Best regards, Clyde

Hi all,

Unfortunately both my morning routine and imaging are being negatively affected by our infamous loadshedding here ("scheduled" power outages to protect the national grid from collapsing....), with outages the last few mornings during my prime imaging time. Should get better in the coming days (hopefully!) as the schedule rotates.

On top of that, seeing wasn’t the best! S Sabeaus and S Meridiani are the main features with Hellas at upper left, looking subdued from this angle. No significant activity to note.

Best regards, Clyde

Hi all,

There was no rush this morning as the forecast indicated cloud, after a string of cloudy mornings, until I realised the sky was clear and I scrambled to catch what I could! Seeing conditions were not particularly good and there was a heavy dew after recent rains.

Sinus Meridiani is central. With Mars now just above 7 arc-seconds, I have stopped the 1.5x resize, but still retained the 1.5x drizzle.

Best regards, Clyde

Hi, all

It was cloudy when I checked early this morning, but when I eventually got up, there was a brief gap where I snatched some RGB before cloud again interfered, preventing any IR capture.

Looking down on the vast expanse of Mare Erythraeum, with Argyre upper centre and Niliacus Lacus lower centre.

Hi, all

Very poor conditions this morning as I returned to my more regular routine after being sidetracked the last few days preparing for a stellar occultation involving Jupiter's Moon Europa.

The view is centred on Aurorae Sinus, although very little detail is seen. Argyre is a little light, but not prominently so.

Strong jetstream has been experienced over this region for a while, and is continuing.

Best regards, Clyde

Hi all,

Here are some Jupiter images from the 17th and 18th.

The morning of the 17th had the planet sat in a dense area of high clouds under a very bright sky. Getting anything of use was near impossible.

The following morning (18th) had very poor transparency due to Saharan dust. I had to use a colour camera as filtered work wasn't possible. Surpised the result turned out quite well given the incredibly murky sky!

Hi all,

I was fortunate to have a period of very good seeing for a time this morning despite the low altitude of the planet. After some careful collimation tweaks i spent ~45min imaging the planet. There was quite a bit of high cloud around but the area low in the south was relatively clear. This may well be one of the best images ive obtained of the planet so low in the sky.

Hi all,

I was met with pretty terrible seeing this morning and quickly skipped past Saturn and Jupiter.

I gave Mars a try in the hope that I may be able to extract something from the significantly higher framerates.

Solis Lacus is towards upper left, and the Valles Marineris complex extends in from centre left.

Best regards, Clyde

Hi all,

After seeing conditions recovered for a while on Jupiter, they then degraded significantly as I moved onto Mars, and this set is from limited data.

The view is centred on Arsia Mons with Olympus Mons at lower right, Solis Lacus at upper left and Mare Sirenum at upper right. Daedalia is at upper centre.

As far as I can see, things look calm.

Hi all,

I had some fairly decent conditions this morning, which again deteriorated towards sunrise, but allowed this view of the Tharsis region, with Amazonis to the right. Daedalia is at upper left.

The huge bulges of Olympus Mons and Arsia Mons can be seen. Mare Sirenum is the distinct dark albedo feature in the upper right quadrant. In the blue, no significant cloud is seen over the temperate and equatorial regions, or the volcanoes.

Hi all,

I had to end my session on Mars this morning in a hurry, with limited data capture, as I had some commitments.

M Sirenum and M Cimmerium are the two main dark albedo features across the upper section of the planet. The SPC structure is interesting. Otherwise, it looks to me that things are quite calm.

My apologies for duplication on some forums, but I did want to share some positive news on my side. Over the weekend I was informed that I have been awarded the BAA Steavenson Award for 2022. I am delighted and honoured and wish to express my sincere thanks to Richard McKim, John Rogers and the BAA Council.

I think that you have a side view of Novus Mons. The Ls is right for that feature. Also, there is a little red spot at the SPC's edge near the central meridian -- possibly a small dust feature. It merits follow-up.
