Hi all,

This follows the Saturn images from the same night. The excellent seeing kept on until sunrise.

Very fine details are recorded in IR in the northern hemisphere, as well as some structure inside BA.

About BA, its reddish inner ring, currently very faint in visible light, is clearly detected as a dark feature in UV. Only UV can do that!

Regards,

Christophe

Hi all, here's an image of Saturn from last night using a 600nm longpass filter under reasonably steady seeing with strong jetstream.

Tethys and its shadow can be seen in transit across the southern hemisphere.

13 recordings spanning 42 minutes were used to make this image.

best regards

Hi all, here's an image of Saturn from last night using a 750nm longpass filter.

Seeing was poor so no fine details can be seen. I combined 11 x 90s recordings over the space of 50 minutes.

Dione (left) and Tethys (right) can be seen. I've increased the brightness of the moons to make them more visible. WJ has done a good job of correcting them.

cheers, Anthony

Hi all, here's an image of Saturn from last night in poor/variable seeing.

Only 750nm longpass was usable. No exceptional features are visible on the disk or in the rings.

All the best

¤••••• Subject: Saturn images taken with the T620 of AstroQueyras observatory,

with spokes on the rings, 11 and 12 August 2023

Received: 16 August 19:11 JST

Hi all,

I'm back from my 2023 mission at the AstroQueyras observatory, and we have benefited from two good nights, one being incredible. Here is a selection of the best images taken from both nights. I have been observing at the T620 (F/15 Cassegrain) instead of the T500.

Anthony Wesley observed a spoke on ring B recently, and some have been caught as well here, with Ic and CH4 filters !

Many subtle details can be see on the animations. The animation technique is very powerful for Saturn, since the smallest details are often hard to confirm on a still image... Note some bright CH4 spots on the EZ, I didn't think it was possible to observe activity on that band...

The camera is used at prime focus without any barlow. Added to the altitude of the site which almost reaches 3000 meters, it makes UV imaging more easy. I am using now a quite "extreme" UV filter along with the usual Johnson U, the U340 from Asahi Spectra. I detect an evolution of the albedo of the planet with the 340 filter, where the EZ is darker, and the rest of the globe slightly brighter (this can be see on the HST images between the F395N and the F343M)

I will have more data on Jupiter.

Best wishes,

Christophe

Hi all, here's an image of Saturn from last night through an Astrodon R filter.

I was trying to catch Mimas in transit however the seeing was just not good enough to see it.

I recorded and derotated 37 minutes of data to get this result.

cheers, Anthony

Received: 6 August 2023 at 10:53 JST

Hi all, here's an image of Saturn from last night through a 750nm longpass filter showing a transit of Tethys. Tethys can be seen at lower right but its shadow is cast below and right of the moon and is on the limb, resulting in some artifacting when WJ derotates it.

The 55 degree south storm can be seen down near the south pole. I had to start early to catch both of these in the same image, Saturn was still quite low and the seeing was not great.

Hi all, here's an image of Saturn from last night in good seeing.

Not a lot of action can be seen on the planet in this image however there is a large horizontal structure evident in the southern hemisphere at mid latitudes.

3 x 13 images were derotated to make this result spanning 54 minutes.

Hi all, some good seeing for a couple of hours last night allowed me to capture a colour image of Saturn. By a stroke of luck Tethys was in transit during this period and also a prominent spoke in the B ring came into view near the end of the session. See attached image and animation.

Hi all, some reasonable seeing this morning on Saturn.

I recorded 22 images covering 1500utc to 1600utc through a 750nm longpass filter and combined them in Winjupos to get the attached result.

The bright storm at 55 degrees South can be seen and is shown enhanced in the inset.
