Hi all, here's an image of Saturn from last night in reasonable seeing using a 650nm longpass filter.

A number of faint cloud features can be seen on the disk. Rhea can be seen to the left of the rings.

8 images spanning 12 minutes were measured and merged in Winjupos.

Hi all,

I fear the persistent seasonal afternoon winds, which are peaking just around the time I am wanting to image Mars, will draw this apparition to a close for me.

Almost impossible to attain a decent focus, and stronger winds are forecast in the coming days. But I will continue to check.

M Acidalium and Niliacus L may just be made out at lower right. The bright Arabia/Eden region dominates the view to the left. Whilst Sinus Meridiani may just be detected, S Sabeaus is not.

Hi all,

I wasn’t expecting to image yesterday afternoon, with cloud forecast. However, there were significant gaps, which allowed me to run a series of captures.

The view is centred on Chryse with Niliacus Lacus and M Acidalium below centre.

Nilokeras can be seen to the right of Niliacus L.

M Erythraeum extends across the upper section of the planet with Aurorae Sinus upper right of centre.

Indus(quite obvious) and Margaritifer Sinus are visible.

Sinus Meridiani can just be made out on the left limb.

Hi all,

A frustrating session with some hectic late afternoon winds peaking before sunset.

The view is centred on Xanthe. Solis Lacus is at the upper right of the image with Valles Marineris extending above centre towards the right.

Aurorae Sinus is above centre, with Nilokeras is below centre.

Niliacus Lacus and Mare Acidalium are at lower left. Mare Erythraeum is at upper left, with maybe a hint of lightness over/in Argyre on the upper limb.

Chryse/Xanthe extend to the left of centre.

I must admit, I am pleasantry surprised that the typically light flash of Ophir/Candor still appears to be detected.

Many cloud features are visible, including what appears (?) to be a lighter recirculation system

Also a prominent dark feature is visible in the southern hemisphere closer to the SEB as well as many festoon-like structures in the equatorial region. The long-lived white spot is visible at lower right.

The moons Tethys and Rhea are visible close to the right hand edge of the rings.

Tethys is just above the ring and visible only as a tiny extension to the ring while Rhea is below the ring.

Hi all,

Another pre-sunset image set from yesterday afternoon.

The general trend of reasonable RLP and R, “so-so” G and poor B continues.

The B likely negatively affected by the altitude, build up of light afternoon cloud and lower transparency due to wildfires at this time of year.

Mare Cimmerium is across the top, with Hesperia at upper right. Unfortunately I could not pick out the Sinus Gomer extensions.

Light(RLP/R) Elysium is just to the left of centre.  Trivium Charontis and Cerebus may be detected.

I was pleased to see the familiar Amazonian giant “?” to the left of Elysium, best seen in the RLP

Propontis I is to the lower left of Elysium.

Propontis II,  Stymphalius L, Gyndes, Sithonius L, Panchaia, and Utopia are across the bottom.

Hi all,

Image set from yesterday afternoon, about an hour before sunset.

R and RLP remain decent. The B was extremely low contrast, likely due to light cloud that I noticed as I closed up at the end of the session (still well before sunset). As a result the RGB may be somewhat inaccurate, but I include for aesthetic reasons.

Syrtis Major is on the right limb with Mare Cimmerium/Tritonis Sinus above centre. Hesperia and Syrtis Minor are to the upper right. Boreosyrtis (lower right) and Utopia are across the bottom, separated by the light Umbra. Elysium is to the left of centre.

As mentioned above, the RGB may be inaccurate due to the poor B, and I am wondering if the RLP/R don’t hint at the appearance of the SP Hood. But I certainly cannot be sure.

Hi all, here's an image of Saturn from Rubyvale last night in poor seeing.

The 807nm longpass filter was the best choice in the conditions and it shows some detail around the equatorial region and a compact bright storm in the south.

Note the distorted shape of the rings as they pass in front of the globe caused by the large amount of image enhancement needed to bring out the details on the planet interacting with the curved ring shadow.
