Hi all,

Having found some decent conditions this morning on Saturn, I was encouraged to try a first RGB capture. But while busy with the B captures, and before I could go to the R captures, cloud moved over (which unfortunately also prevented any Mercury captures). I did however use the R610LP to put together the R(R/IR)GB image. The B was poor quality, but it’s a start.

Mare Cimmerium and Mare Sirenum continue to dominate the view, with Elysium to lower right and Amazonis to lower left.

If I may add a further remark,

I think Ausonia is naturally a little light, and this appearance is much like at similar Martian season in the past.

Thanks for this image, Clyde.

Ausonia bright spot. Hmmm. . . . It's the beginning of southern summer, not usually a season of ice clouds, but a season of dust storms. I suspect that the bright spot is a local dust cloud in Ausonia.

Hi all,

Mars this morning, shortly after sunrise.

The main dark feature is Mare Cimmerium, with Mare Sirenum now coming into view to the left and with Hesperia and Mare Tyrrhenum to the right.

Possible detection of a small SPC with Mare Chronium and Electris/Eridania below it.

Elysium is towards the bottom.

I note the light spot, to the upper right (Ausonia region?).

Best regards, Clyde

Hi all,

Mars this morning, shortly after sunrise.

The main dark feature is Mare Cimmerium.

Maybe a hint of lightness at the SPC with Mare Chronium and Electris/Eridania below it.

Elysium is lower centre.

I don’t think it will be long before I should be able to try RGB.

Hi all,

Here is an image from last night. Some spells of excellent seeing for a short time.

Sadly it didn't last long enough for when the shadow of Io arrived on the disk!

Oval BA is well seen though looking rather indistinct.

Hi all,

Mars this morning, shortly before sunrise.

The main dark feature is Mare Cimmerium, with Hesperia and M Tyrrhenum to its right.

Maybe a hint of lightness at the SPC and the upper right limb (Hellas?)

Elysium is lower centre, although no obvious detail noted.

Hi all,

Here is an image from last night. My 50th Jupiter imaging session of the current apparition.

A brief spell of about 15 min was it for the decent seeing this night which happened almost exactly around sunset.

Europa is in transit showing a phase effect.

Spot Z is prominent in the NTrZ. The NNTZ-LRS is faintly seen at upper right.

Hi all,

Here is an image from tonight just after sundown. Similar to last night in a handful of captures were good quality - actually better than i expected which is always a nice surprise :-)

Perhaps most notable in the small STrZ ring is now very faint. I almost missed it initially.

The SEB is in a very settled condition at these longitudes.

Hi all,

Another early season attempt at Mars, although I had to sit for quite a while (30mins) for altitude to increase and to allow conditions to settle after sunrise.

As noted on another post, there is currently strong Jetstream.

A few features may have been detected:

a) SPC at top

b) Syrtis Major at lower right.

c) Syrtis Minor and Mare Tyrrhenum are the dark features near centre.

d) Hesperia and Mare Cimmerium are to the centre left.

e) Hellas shows as slightly light above Syrtis M.

f) Eridania also shows as light towards the upper left.

Here is an image from yesterday evening. Mostly poor to variable seeing throughout with a few better moments here and there.

The GRS is well seen. Time is fast running out now for further good quality views as the planet is now rapidly dropping into the evening twilight.

Hi all,

Here are two recent images - one from the 13th and the other from last night.

Excellent seeing for a time on the 13th. Windy with large amounts of low cloud blowing in from the sea on the 15th allowed only a handful of captures, though seeing was good.

Oval BA is nicely seen though rather distorted in shape.

The resolution of very fine detail is starting to fall off somewhat with the dwindling angular size of the planet.

C) Mare Serpentis at centre left

D) Deucalionis Regio is the light region in the centre, with a hint of Pandorae Fretum above it

Hi all,

I managed to catch an early season glimpse of a small (4.1”) Mars just after sunrise this morning at an altitude of 20 degrees.

Low resolution due to poor, challenging, conditions.

However, I believe a few features may just be detected:

a) The south polar cap at the top

b) The darkish Mare Erythraeum extending across the centre

c) The light streak of Chryse/Xanthe across the lower section of the image.

d) Maybe a hint of Niliacus Lacus at the bottom.

e) Tharsis to the lower right.

Hi all,

Mostly variable/average seeing for the session, with a brief improvement right toward the end when this was captured before it again worsened. A lot of time spent for only a brief period of decent conditions.

Oval BA is moving off at lower right. The array of SSTC white ovals at this longitude is nicely seen.
