Fw: Another record of Nov. 2003 terminator protrusion?
Received;
----- Original Message
-----
Date:
Dear Dr.
Minami, Christophe, When I was searching in the 2003 CMO Mars Gallery the other
day for unintended Martian stereo pair images, I stumbled across another
candidate for the record of the prominent terminator projection observed in
Nov. 2003, a color drawing by Mario FRASSATI on 17 Nov. 2003. I have attached
here a montage including his drawing. How was the solar activity then?

bring my Jupiter processing a bit more up-to-date. This image from the 14th was
constructed from an RGB,RGB,RGB sequence, all one minute videos. Seeing not

Dears,
Jupiter with Ganymede and its shadow's transit. Seeing was good at the
beginning in infrared, as usual Galileo Regio (dark zone) and the bright
zone around Osiris crater on Ganymede:
http://www.astrosurf.com/delcroix/images/planches/j20121024i-03h51.0UT-MDe.jpg
Unfortunately seeing was very
variable when I started 4 LRGB series, at
the end only 2 reds, 2 greens, 1 luminance and 1 blue came out good enough:

Luminance:

Red layer:

Green layer, unfortunately
really below the red and blue layers,
degrading the result of my LRGB:

Blue layer, good surprise,
nicely detailled thanks to a momentary good
seeing period (that was really nice to see on the screen):

Finally a methane image,
stopped short due to haze coming :

Jupiter impacts detection software available on PVOL-IOPW
Received;
Dear all,
Please forgive me if this message arrives to you through several media.
Jupiter observation by amateur astronomers has steadily increased over the last
years in number of observers and quality of the observations. The International
Outer Planets Watch and its database of visual observations PVOL (http://www.pvol.ehu.es)
store observations by many of you that have largely contributed to our advances
in our knowledge of the dynamics of the jovian atmosphere. We have posted a
software tool able to detect fireball impacts in Jupiter that could interest
your attention. You can find this software on the PVOL webpage
http://www.pvol.ehu.es/software
or through the links in the PVOL webpage
http://www.pvol.ehu.es/
We warmfull acknowledge helpfull discussions and ideas shared with Emil
Kraaimkap, Marc Delcroix and John H. Rogers. We hope the software will be
helpfull to those of you interested in finding this type of Jupiter impacts.
Best regards,

Retroreflection on Mars
Received;
Dear Dr.
Minami, all areoholics, Attached here is a snapshot by the exploration rover
Opportunity in Meridiani Planum showing its own shadow cast on the dust-covered
Martian ground. Note its shadow (more accurately its camera's) is surrounded by
a bright aureole.
The
prominent anti-solar brightning just looks like the ones photographed on the
Moon (see also attached another photo by Apollo 17 astronaut Eugene Cernan)
suggesting the strong retroreflectivity of Martian
dust which might have retroreflective properties comparable to those of Lunar
regolith including coherent backscattering. The remarkable retroreflectivity of
Martian dust, I guess, may be responsible for the gNix Olympicah phenomenon,
presumably a special opposition surge occurs on the gigantic volcano Olympus
Mons only observable under near zero phase angle condition.

Solar Images 9th 15th
Received;
Hi Guys here are a few
images from earlier in the month. ( I Have been spending some time on Jupiter
and getting to grips with WinJupos Derotation tools).
The have been quite a few
very faint spooky and quite large proms lurking at the threshold of
acquisition, I just have to give them a go.
On
the 08:53ut image of AR 1579 My attention was drawn to a "straight
line", in fact it is a double line. Some sort of Solar Tsunami I wonder ?
Anyone? I have added a Gong archive image . A marvelous website where they put
out a complete ha image every 10 seconds or so, "forever" !
