From Don PARKER

@. . . . . . . . . . Have attached some more Mars images. Looks pretty normal for the season. Note the "2 dots" appearance of Trivium-Cerberus, much like it has been for the past 2 apparitions. Best,

                     Images flat and dark corrected.

Seeing very poor (2-4, Pickering). Transparency fair (3.5-4.5m) due to Saraha dust. No wind. Altitude = 38-35 degrees. Moderate dew. Moderately bright morning limb cloud -- bright in green but less conspicuous in blue. Elysium cloud weak. Arctic clouds -- possible NP Hood formation.

MARS IMAGES 17 May, 2001

D.C. Parker, Coral Gables, FL.  Lynxx PC camera  16-in (41cm) Meade SCT

Eyepiece Projection @ f/43.7  Paramount GT 1100S Mount

            Integration Times:

BLUE (Koheisha, 445nm peak central; BWHM 105nm)    5.80s

GREEN (Koheisha, 540nm peak central; BWHM 75nm)    1.92s

    RED (RG610 - No IR Rejection)                      0.31s

                     Images flat and dark corrected.

Seeing fairly good (5-6, Pickering). Transparency fair (4m) due to Saraha dust. Wind WSW 0-2 kts. Altitude = 35-37 degrees. Light dew. Tharsis orographics fairly weak, especially Olympus Mons as it approached the PM limb. Elysium bright in R and G but not Blue. Bright AM limb arc. SPH bright and well formed. Note SPR surface details in red light: the red filter is used without IR rejection and therefore takes advantage of the IR sensitivity of the CCD chip. Trivium Char. again weak, taking on the appearance of the last two apparitions: just 2-3 tiny dots, best seen in the 09:09 UT image.
