Subject: July 02 Mars Images

Hello everyone...

I am sending my first attempt at imaging Mars this summer.  These images were taken with the 30cm classical-cass reflector working at approx.  f30, and imaged with a Phillips ToUcam Pro.  The Pixcel 237 CCD will be out of service for a while being returned to SBIG for service.

These images are of low quality and resolution.  I have refigured the scope to give a higher effective f-ratio, but the seeing is poor and combined with the low altitude of Mars this year it may be a challenge to get high quality images on a regular basis.  I thought that these images were of interest considering the reported outbreak of a dust storm in the Hellas region.  I thought that there may be a bit of evidence in these images, but they are from the early part of the outbreak.

Also note that processing has caused Syrtis Major to show a rather dark, linear (arc shaped) appearance rather than its typical structure.

Details are annotated on the images.  Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Take care,

Brian COLVILLE (Ontario, Canada)
