Subject: 2003-07-09 Mars (bad seeing)

Dear friends,

Attached was mars taken on 0709 at 17:51UT. Seeing was bad with thin haze. My friend Szeto Kuen Chuen was imaging with me and saw a thunder cloud was moving towards us, very exciting!!!

There are some yellowish "hazes" over Yaonis Fretum and Mare Serpentis.

Subject: 2003-07-12 Mars taken with 12.5" Newt

Dear friends,

Attached was the Mars taken at 18:08UT with the 12.5" Newtonian. Seeing was below average and transparency was good. The shape of Hellas is very well defined.

Subject: 2003-07-13 Mars

Dear friends,

Attached two mars shots were taken in this morning. Seeing was just fair and surprisingly it further degraded while mars was transiting zenith ... I believe some local turbulent causing blur image.

I shall install the ventilation fan for the newtoinan and see whether the image can be improved.

Please feel free to comment.

AH Yes, I have forgotten to mention that the previous mars images were taken with my friend KC Pau. We have shared a lot of experience and fun during the imaging section.

Subject: 2003-07-14 Mars

Dear friends,

Attached was the mars image taken in this morning. Seeing was very bad in average but luckily there were some relatively steady moment. Very bad thing is very windy!!! The long Newtonian tube was shaking by wind.

Still awaiting the 9/10 seeing.

Dear friends,

Attached was the mars image taken in this morning. Seeing was very bad and very windy while imaging. This time I used a bit natural processing.

Clear skies will keep on at least Sunday. Hope the seeing can be better. The atmospheric dispersion do affect the sharpness even RGB aligned.

Subject: 2003-07-16 mars (terrible seeing)

Dear friends,

Seeing at my observing site last night was terrible. All the time cannot reach the focus. Just take a shot at 3:00am and then go sleep. WOW!!! What a nice sleep

Subject: 2003-07-17 mars (good seeing)

Dear friends,

Attached Mars was taken in this morning. I was lucky enough to have some good seeing. Transparency was a bit lower. Thanks Wei Leong and Maurice for their recent images that inspired me to readjust my processing rountinue to more natural looking.

Hellas is clear and Nodus Alcyonius appear quite sharply shown

Subject: 2003-07-18 mars (my best mars taken under steady seeing)

Dear friends,

Attached were a set of mars images taken in this morning. I use harder processing for the shot taken at 20:36 and the other two with "natural" processing. Those are my best so far. The south polar cap shows very complex structure!!!

Subject: Yellowish streak on Mare Tyrrhenum?

Dear friends,

I compared the shots taken at 17:41 and 18:10. I found a yellowish streak over the Mare Tyrrhenum region which was moving northwards within 30 mins. I must say I don’t know whether it is real or not. The streak show very distinct in R frame but not in blue. Seeing of 18:10 was slightly worse than 17:41 one. I am attaching the comparison for your comment. May some experts kindly comment on it.

Damian,

Your shot is impressive as usual. I must say I am not confident to produce similar quality image as yours when Mars is 25 degs high!!!

Wish you have great result during your mars imaging trip.

Cheers

Subject: Another 2003-07-18 mars

Dear friends,

Attached was another 2003-07-18 mars taken at 17:31UT. This one showed better SPC and the yellowish streak was visible.

Subject: reprocessed mars

Dear friends,

I have reprocessed my mars taken on July 18. The SPC detail improved a lot. I resized it to bigger version and a grayscale version side by side.
