2015 CMO NEWS

 A. Great Loss

It was really sad to hear that Donald C. PARKER passed away on the evening of 22 February 2015. This news was readily brought to us by Sean WALKER (S&T), Jeff BEISH, Thomas DOBBINS via Bill SHEEHAN and Carlos HERNANDEZ (personally in FB). The ending pages of ISMO/CMO #431 (February issue) were full of voices of sorrow sent from around the world. It was also a great loss for us because he was a member of the Advisory Board of the CMO/ISMO. We sincerely express our grief, and pay our great respect and gratitude to him.

 B. The planet Mars Has Moved to the Morning Sky

The following SOHO LASCO C2 figures show that Mars moved now to the morning sky. It was at conjunction on 14 June 2015 at 16h GMT. Mars will next be at opposition on 22 May 2016 at 11h GMT. Note however it will be closest to the Earth on 30 May at 21.5h GMT with the largest angular diameter of 18.6 arcseconds.
