Andre NIKOLAI #209

Letters to the Editor

from Andre NIKOLAI in CMO #209

@ . . . . Thank you for constant sending of your CMO (and the nice stamps).
Now I had not started observing Mars yet, except one CCD-Image which could be some of the earliest ones at the new apparition. I had observed Jupiter sucsessfully until now - we have a very cold, cloudy and rainy fall. At the new year I will start to observe Mars regulary and I look forward to get good CCD images. I have enclosed two images at this mail, the first shows Mars at Sept. 1st, taken whith the 150mm refractor at WFS, OES LCCD14SC camera, filtered in red light (RG 610), exposure time 0.2sec. The image shows a large NPC and a dark fringe around it. The Syrtis Major is not recogniable.
The second image shows Mars again in a composit between Saturn and Jupiter. All images taken in the same night, same telescope and the same apparent size, Jupiter and Saturn were filtered in bluegreen light. The seeing was excellent. If you want to look more images (especially Jupiter) please visit our WFS-Homepages

Unfortunatly the pages are in German language (English version is under construction) but the images you should understand.

@ . . . . Thank you for your response. For earlier time I had not thought that the Mars CCD image might be useful for you. I had read in CMO #207 about other observers, which had observed Mars succsessfully. So I sent my image to you, I had known that the deadline was over. For future observations of course I will respect your deadline and will send the images timely. . . .
I had printed my drawings single on A4 paper sheets and had given Wolfgang them to send to you and your colleagues, but he told me I had have sent email images to you so he can save the sending to you. Perhaps he would send them to you. . . . .
My drawings on paper sheet from last apparition were made 1:1 in own designed forms with 40mm diameter.
