Letters to the Editor

from Frank J MELILLO in CMO #219

@ . . . . On 5-26-99 at 4:00 UT (Approx. CM=260 degrees), I would like to inform you that there was some unusual clouds activity in violet light. What seems to be a diagonal band clouds, not EBC, stretching from Mare Cimmerium to the northern tip of Syrtis Major. I had never seen this before. In spite of some seeing problem, I took two CCD images and there are pretty decent. Hopefully, some of you may have seen this recently. In a few days, I will send the images.
Jim - Thanks for your e-mail. When you have a chance, check the HST website and see if you can find one newsletter on Mars' Polar Storm.

@ . . . . Here are my latest images of Mars on 5-26-99 UT. Take a closer at the violet images and see what you can make it out. The band clouds looks diagonal, but now I think this relates to the ECB and obscured northern half of Syrtis Major. Quite impressive!
